WHAT IS KAVA
HOW KAVA IS MADE?
Traditionally, kava was made by young female virgins chewing the roots and spitting them out into a tanoa bowl (large wooden bowl used for preparing and serving kava). This method created a paste that was mixed with water and served to the men in the tribe, starting with the chief. Don’t worry, we use hygienic methods these days! At Tiki Tide Kava Bar, our premium kava roots are mixed with specially filtered water, then kneaded and strained until the tea is of the highest potency for the best effects. When presented with kava, clap once and yell ‘Bula!’ (Fijian for hello, life & happiness). Drink the kava in one gulp if possible, then clap three more times when finished.
IS KAVA SAFE?
When used in moderation, Kava has been shown to be beneficial and is an excellent alternative to alcohol. If you have health conditions, are on medication, or are pregnant or breast feeding, consult your doctor prior to trying our products. Avoid drinking alcohol with Kava. Kava and some herbal elixirs can make you feel very relaxed so exercise caution if driving.
